Little Seed – Anti-Slavery Chocolate

Estimated read time 2 min read

Little seeds are sound-bite posts where I share a quick thought, video, article, or some other bit of interesting information.

I came across this post on SHE Changes Everything a few weeks ago and it really left me with a heavy heart. It discusses how slave labor (yes actual slave labor, which falls under the umbrella of human trafficking) is still a common practice and is used to produce many products that we buy every day. This particular article called out the chocolate and coffee industries. The two main parent companies sited in the article for still using slave labor in their operations and products are Nestle and Jacobs Douwe Egberts, or JDE. I can’t express enough how strongly I recommend this article to anyone who drinks coffee or eats chocolate – especially those who have regular habits around these products.

With Easter coming in a couple of weeks, soon people will be buying goodies and treats for Easter baskets. Please read this article and consider buying chocolates from a conscious business rather than one that follows these terrible slave-labor practices. Some of my favorite brands are:

Most of these bars are available through Thrive Market – you can read about my review of them here, and save 15% off here.

This is not a paid post. I received no compensation from any of the companies listed above, and aside from purchasing these chocolate bars and placing orders on Thrive Market, I don’t think they even know who I am. I just really love these companies, like to support them, and think they has a lot to offer so I wanted to share so you can check them out too!
